A 27-year-old man from Torbay appeared in court in St. John’s today following a tense situation in Carbonear on Wednesday.
Peter Campbell was arrested at a home on Adelaide Street after police received reports that he was hiding out in Carbonear.
Officers from the Harbour Grace and Bay Roberts detachments descended on Adelaide Street Wednesday afternoon and surrounded a home where Peter Campbell was reported to be inside.
Other people inside the home were safely removed and residents of neigbouring homes were asked to shelter in place.
Campbell surrendered without incident following negotiations with police, and he was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
Inside the home police recovered an item that appeared to be a handgun, or an imitation handgun.
The investigation into Wednesday’s incident continues.
Campbell appeared in court in St. John’s today on numerous charges laid by the RNC including robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a weapon or imitation for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon or imitation, and numerous counts of theft and breaches of probation.
