The St. John’s Regional Fire Department is showing its support in the fight against cancer in a very visible way.
A lavender fire truck, complete with purple ribbons and the words “believe,” and “fighting to extinguish cancer,” was officially unveiled in a ceremony at the Paradise Fire Station this morning.Last week, the department announced it was phasing out it’s P-FAS gear, which has been linked to increased cancer rates among firefighters.
The truck was unveiled in Paradise, which recently suffered the loss of town councillor Elizabeth Laurie to cancer at the age of 44.
Lauries sister, Pamela Rixon, says it helps keep her sister’s legacy alive.“‘Believe’ was really important to her, and a lot of different people took on the believe fight for her as well” says Laurie.
