A wintery system is set to move across the Avalon Peninsula this evening – but the fast-moving system will already have moved on by the time most people get ready for school or work tomorrow.
Five to 10 cm of snow is expected overnight before temperatures rise, and the precipitation peters out to light showers by morning.
Environment Canada meteorologist David Neil says residents of the east coast and Burin Peninsula might want to get out early to start clearing the white stuff before the showers start and the snow gets heavy.
The snow will persist on the rest of the island with slightly higher snowfall amounts from Clarenville to Corner Brook, with snowfall totals ranging from 5 cm in southern areas, to 15 cm in the interior and west coast.
