The PC Education critic says he is “shocked” at the latest revelations around the PowerSchool privacy breach affecting a significant number of students and teachers.
Earlier this week government revealed that 271,000 students and 14,000 teachers had their data breached.
For students, the data dates back to 1995, and for teachers it goes back to 2010.
Paul Dinn criticizes government’s response as “slow and fragmented,” likening it to the 2021 healthcare cyber attack.
Dinn says people don’t have clear answers about who is impacted or when they will be notified, noting that government’s news release only offers “vague reassurances” about credit monitoring and identity protection.
He also highlights what he calls a “lack of visible leadership” by Education minister Krista Lynn Howell, noting that the new information was only sent out via news release.
