Residents in the Mundy Pond area are calling for traffic calming measures in the city’s west end after a dog was reportedly struck by speeding vehicle in the area of Empire Avenue near Jensen Camp Road.
Ward Councillor Greg Noseworthy admits it’s one of a number of areas that have seen problems with speeding in recent years and the city is aware.
He recently met with the RNC to discuss speeding, not just in that area of Mundy Pond, but in other parts of the city as well, including Waterford Valley, Cowan Heights, and Topsail Road. “It’s a serious problem” says Noseworthy and “presents a serious safety risk for residents, for pets…for everybody.”
Among the tools available to council are curb extensions, speed bumps and even mini-roundabouts. He says the city does about five temporary and five permanent traffic-calming projects each year, and he encourages residents to speak out and bring problem areas to council’s attention.
