U.S. President Donald Trump says he will be imposing hefty tariffs on Canadian goods starting tomorrow.
Trump doubled down on his threat to impose 25 per cent tariffs last night, saying he will be slapping the levy on all goods imported from Canada and Mexico.
Speaking with reporters yesterday, the president once again cited concerns over illegal drugs and migrant crossings at the border as the motive behind his tariffs.
When asked if he plans to subject oil exports to the 25 per cent duty, Trump said they “may or may not.”
“We’ll see,” he told reporters. “It depends on the price, the oil is properly priced, if they treat us properly—which they don’t. Mexico and Canada have never been good to us on trade. They’ve treated us very unfairly in trade and we will be able to make that up very quickly because we don’t need the products that they have. We have all the oil you need, we have all the trees you need meaning the lumber, we have more than anybody.”
