The country is waiting for word on what the White House will do about tariffs on Canadian goods today.
Premier Andrew Furey says U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods will be “incredibly punishing,” which comes just hours before we find out the full extent of the impact.
During a speech in St. Anthony yesterday, Furey said the federal government will need to step up to provide support for harvesters, who rely on the U.S. for fish exports.
Furey also likened Trump to a bully, saying that if we let him take our lunch money now, he will come back for the house.
He says becoming a 51st state in lieu of tariffs is not an option.
“Never let that bully take that choice away from our forefathers and future generations. We are a strong, united Canada, and we need to recognize this moment as an attack on who we are, our values, and our identity moving forward,” he said.
