The local mining industry is bracing for the impact of the US trade war on Canada.
Executive Director of Mining NL Amanda McCallum says nickel represents the highest value in terms of NL’s exports to the United States, with half of all the high-purity nickel produced here heading south of the border.
McCallum says the province ships a lot of rough gravel and stone to the US.
She says 100 per cent of all aggregate is exported to the United States. “It really is quite significant,” says McCallum.
She says how individual companies and projects respond to the current situation remains to be seen, but she says market diversification is essential.
