The provincial government has officially unveiled its new buy local campaign.
Premier Andrew Furey, flanked by numerous other cabinet ministers and government officials, unveiled the campaign logo and details at Urban Market 1919 this morning.
It will include advertising across various mediums, as well as downloadable materials that business owners can use to promote local products.
Premier Andrew Furey says other materials, such as brochures and posters, can be made available to retailers upon request.
While the idea was born out of tariff threats from the United States, Furey says that local promotion should be done anyway.
He says that they want people to read the labels on the things they are buying and make informed choices about where the product is coming from.
Urban Market 1919 general manager Isabelle Quinlan says their call isn’t just to buy local, but to support local.
She says every little action, whether that’s engaging on social media or choosing to buy locally sourced potatoes, has an impact on the local economy.
