The federal government has given a west coast mining company a $1-million funding boost.
Ottawa says Atlas Salt will use the money, which must be repaid, to support their Mine Design and Optimization Initiative—an important component of the Great Atlantic Salt Project.
The project will look at the use of electric vehicles, the optimization of mine design for efficiency, and geotechnical and hydrological studies.
According to the federal government, construction on the project, located in St. George’s, will begin later this year with production slated to begin in 2029.
Up to 300 full time construction jobs will be created, and there will be 170 permanent positions during operations.
