The province’s Seniors’ Advocate says the long-awaited review of long-term care and personal care homes, released publicly yesterday, has been in government’s hands since December—plenty of time she says to put together a plan that will see implementation of the report’s 23 recommendations as soon as this spring.
Of particular interest says Susan Walsh is the emphasis on governance. She hopes the five recommendations made in that area will help to improve all-important oversight into the care of seniors and others in long term and personal care.
She hopes to see “independent oversight of these facilities such that they’re held to account, to ensure that they are meeting these recommendations, and, all the other standards that exist to ensure quality of care for the residents.”
