“It’s about time we had genuine, free trade within Canada.”
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says it’s been inspirational to see how Canadians have come together in the face of economic threats against Canada by the United States.
Trudeau spoke to a Canada-US Economic Summit involving politicians, business leaders and labour in Toronto today.
The Prime Minister says eliminating barriers between provinces is part of what needs to happen to help build and expand a strong Canadian economy.
“It’s going to require all of us, not just governments, but business leaders as well, to step up and push hard and make sure that in this moment, we actually move forward on free trade within Canada that will make us more efficient, more competitive, and give greater opportunities for Canadians.”
That includes businesses, and suppliers says Trudeau, to allow them to do business east-west and not just north-south as has been the default until now.
‘Don’t screw with us’ says Public Safety Minister
Public Safety Minister David McGuinty, one of many involved in today’s discussion, reflected the resolve being expressed by many Canadians since Donald Trump started with his threats against Canadian sovereignty.
He called today’s summit, “one of the most inspiring sessions that I’ve ever been involved with, where you literally see much of the decision-making capacity of Canada in this room, committing themselves to our country, committing themselves to building our country, committing themselves to a renewed focus on our strategic advantages, on our people, and on making sure that Canada comes out of this even stronger.”
McGuinty had a strong message for all Canadians, “This country is strong, don’t screw with us, we will come out ahead.”
