A blizzard warning is now in effect for parts of the Avalon Peninsula.
Snow is expected to start shortly after the supper-hour and continue well into Monday morning at least.
Environment Canada predicts 25-40cm of snow during that time.
There are also strong wind gusts predicted, with northerlies gusting to over 110 km/h.
Meteorologist Melissa Field predicts poor conditions for most parts of the Avalon, as well the south coast, Clarenville, Bonavista Peninsula and potentially even Gander.
“We are expecting the winds to ramp up with this one as well overnight, with gusts to 110 (km/h) overnight tonight and into tomorrow morning over the Avalon Peninsula, and then with that, we’re expecting some blowing snow along with that as well. So, with the cold temperatures and the high winds and the heavy snowfall rates, we are expecting visibility to be greatly reduced,” she told VOCM News.
