Restaurants Canada says members are still at the edge of their seats in light of continued uncertainty surrounding US tariff threats on this country.
Janick Cormier, Vice President Atlantic of Restaurants Canada says the 30-day reprieve on tariffs is cold comfort for the local industry.
She says the restaurant industry is still struggling with the high cost of living and from the losses incurred during COVID restrictions, and tariff threats are the last thing they need.
She notes not a lot of produce is grown in Canada in the winter months, and must be imported. She says currently “53 per cent of restaurants aren’t profitable…so any added cost to operating a restaurant will have a devastating impact.”
