Toronto Police are going back several decades and tracking the movements of Ronald Ackerman, a Newfoundland man charged last week in connection with the murder of a 24-year-old woman 26 years ago.
Acting Detective Sergeant Stephen Smith says Ackerman was identified through a DNA sample collected from the crime scene using genetic genealogy.
Ackerman, who lives in Gander, appeared in Toronto court on Friday, charged with first-degree murder in the death of Donna Oglive, whose body was discovered in a parking lot on Carlton Street on March 8th, 1998.
Smith says they’re now going through other unsolved cases and tracking Ackerman’s movements.
“Right now we don’t have any other offences that he may be responsible for, but we’re going to continue to look into that.”
