As the lives of the 84 men lost in the Ocean Ranger disaster are honoured and remembered today, a foundation dedicated to repatriating the artifacts collected from the site is reporting progress in their efforts.
The Ocean Ranger Legacy Foundation was formed last fall to return the volume of material collected when the drill rig capsized – currently stored in Ottawa – back to the province.
A private members resolution calling on the province to work with Ottawa on repatriating the artifacts and records to St. John’s was unanimously passed in the legislature in November.
Conversations have also begun between The Rooms and the ingenium in Ottawa for a museum to museum transfer.
