Mayor Danny Breen says the province is aware of safety concerns with the CN viaduct that leads in and out of downtown St. John’s.
The overpass at the end of Pitts Memorial Drive has been under long-term construction, with closures and changes to the lanes over that time.
Then last week, there was a serious head-on collision that’s been linked to the confusing route and signage.
Councillor Carl Ridgeley says he’s had a close call of his own, and chalked it up to signs, or a lack thereof.
“The signage heading east is not that bad, it’s actually suitable,” he said. “The signage heading west is horrible.”
Breen said he spoke with Transportation Minister Fred Hutton last weekend and was assured staff are looking into it.
