It’s going to be a messy morning commute for many as a system bringing snow, freezing rain, and high winds moves in later tonight.
Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for central and western Newfoundland, with special weather statements issued for the eastern half of the island.
Meteorologist Melissa Field says snow will begin for parts of the west coast and central later this evening, with 10 to 20 cm expected to be on the ground by tomorrow morning.
Winds will gust around 80 km/h in many areas, except in the Wreckhouse where winds will gust to 150 km/h.
On the eastern portion of the island, snowfall begins overnight and changes to freezing rain or ice pellets tomorrow, just in time for the morning commute.
Blowing snow will continue to be an issue throughout the day and into Friday evening with gusts in the range of 50 – 70 km/h across the island.
