The provincial government is advising the public of fraudulent information circulating on social media that appears to suggest that Premier Andrew Furey is endorsing a cryptocurrency scheme.
The false information is contained in an article which is made to look like the Toronto Star, and uses images from an interview Heather Gillis of CBC did with the premier on the repatriation of the Unknown Soldier.
The article is complete fiction. It includes fake quotes and fraudulent information which suggest that the premier is endorsing cryptocurrency as an “effort to boost consumer confidence.”
The provincial government is encouraging the public to identify scams and stay safe online by knowing what to look for.
