Grammy-winning soul and R&B singer Roberta Flack has passed away at the age of 88.
Flack was in high rotation on radio in the late 60s and early 70s with hits like The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and Killing Me Softly with His Song.
With an intimate style and a voice that could fill a room, gained widespread popularity relatively late in life when Clint Eastwood used The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face in his thriller “Play Misty for Me.”
Flack was also a civil rights activist, gaining friends in the movement including the Reverend Jesse Jackson and Angela Davis.
Flack was diagnosed with ALS in late 2022.
