Premier Andrew Furey made a point of calling out PC leader Tony Wakeham with a comparison to U.S. President Donald Trump during last night’s Evening with the Premier Liberal fundraiser.
“Trump-style ads, Trump-style attacks, are a sign of what (Wakeham) is proposing—Trump-style leadership.”
Furey pulled no punches while addressing a packed room of Liberal supporters at the Delta Hotel.
He challenged Wakeham to “be better,” and specifically referenced what he calls “childish memes” and “Trump-style attacks on the media.”
The latter is a reference to social media videos published by the PCs, in which Wakeham outlines “what you didn’t hear in the media this week.”
What the Media Didn’t Tell You About This Week in the House…
Liberals sold land to their friends—at taxpayers’ expense.
They bought land—then checked the value after.
They tried to hide a $50M healthcare cut in a memo.

A since-deleted version of that video posted to TikTok, included an on-screen caption of “why you can’t trust the media.”
Speaking outside the House of Assembly earlier on Wednesday, Wakeham said the video was meant to be a recap of what the party asked about in the legislature, and not a “shot across the bow, ” but did admit that the TikTok version “should never have happened.”
He explains, “I didn’t know it was up there, and as soon as I found out it was up there I took it down.”
Furey does not buy that explanation, noting that it is not the first time the PCs have had to apologize for social media posts.
“So what has he done to improve his behaviour? So fine, once is a mistake, twice is a pattern and I think people see that for what it is.”
