Island Furniture has donated $250,000 to the Vera Perlin Society’s Job Strategy Program, supporting employment opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities across Newfoundland and Labrador.
The funds will help supported employment agencies secure job placements, and promote independence, confidence, and community inclusion.
“The impact goes far beyond employment,” says Gina Underhay, employment manager at the Vera Perlin Society.
Island Furniture COO Jerry Senior says the company is proud to support the program, which provides opportunities for those facing employment barriers.
In fact, he says they have people from the program working in their store.
He says there are four people employed through the program, and “they are phenomenal, (they) do some great work. And not only that – they put a smile on our face every single day.”
