A ceremony was held at the hospital in Gander today to remember a doctor who had a significant impact on the town.
Dr. Peter Blackie passed away just over a year ago. He practiced medicine for about 57 years, and in that time he is said to have delivered “thousands” of babies.
Blackie also had an impact on the town outside of health care.
He’s described as being “instrumental” in the creation of the North Atlantic Aviation Museum, sat on the board of the airport authority, chaired the board of The Gander Heritage Trails, and “did everything he could” to celebrate Gander’s history.
Today, the obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics unit at James Paton Memorial was dedicated in his honour.
