PC Leader Tony Wakeham is slamming the Liberals, who he believes have “rolled over” for their federal counterparts when it comes to snow crab quotas.
Harvesters protested the cuts in the 3K zone in the White Hills.
Wakeham believes the federal Liberals are making decisions without consulting with those closest to the resource. Moreover, he says the provincial Liberals have been “silent” on the issue, and instead of attending the Mark Carney rally Sunday night, they should have been standing up for harvesters.
Byrne says assertions that government has been silent on the issue is not true.
Byrne says he reached out to newsrooms across the province over the weekend, and has been actively speaking with harvesters in the 3K zone.
Meanwhile, in a statement to VOCM News, fisheries minister Joanne Thompson says they are listening to the concerns of harvesters, and constructive dialogue is ongoing.
