The number of confirmed cases of influenza in the province continues to climb.
As of the end of last week, more than 200 lab-confirmed cases of influenza A were recorded in Newfoundland and Labrador, with 58 people in hospital and 3 deaths over the current reporting period.
That’s well above the five year average, and significantly later than the usual onset and peak of influenza seen in recent years.
The number of cases started to climb dramatically in the province at the beginning of March, and as of right now, are not showing signs of having peaked.
Confirmed cases of COVID meanwhile, remain low and are continuing to drop.
The number of emergency room visits for other respiratory illness peaked later than usual this year, but is on a downward trend.
