Trial dates have been set for three women arrested during a protest in the parking lot of Confederation Building last November.
Amanda Crann, Brenda Lee Kitchen and Jennifer Whiteway are charged with resisting arrest and unauthorized use of government property.
They were part of the Protect NL group who set up shop outside the legislature to protest the pace of wind development in the province.
But it wasn’t so much their message as it was the amount of space they were taking up with their large, colorful boat towed to the site on a trailer, and labelled with the word “Listen.”
They claim police interrupted a peaceful Indigenous ceremony to make the arrests.
The group has been asking for more say in the creation of renewable energy legislation, and presented a petition to government on that with more than 3,000 signatures.
In provincial court this afternoon, a judge granted a request for all three women to be dealt with at the same time.
With that, three days were set aside for trial in October, though their lawyer did suggest they’re close to a resolution with the Crown.
The defence also hinted at potential Charter applications involving the protesters’ rights to do what they did in the first place.
