The provincial government is making the RSV vaccine available to people 60 years of age and older who live in long term and personal care homes.
The number of lab-confirmed cases of RSV has risen to 864 with 47 cases in the most recent reporting week alone.
The department of health says RSV typically causes upper respiratory infections with symptoms including a runny nose and cough, but can develop into pneumonia in more high-risk populations.
The department says seniors in congregate living are at highest risk.
Starting April 1st, NL Health Services will begin administering RSV vaccines to adults 60 and older in congregate living facilities in Newfoundland and Labrador.
