Some parents in the catchment zone for a new K-7 school are dismayed that there is still no sign of any activity – no site work, and no tender call.
The facility, to be located in Kenmount Terrace, is needed to address overcrowding at other schools in the region. It will have capacity for about 850 students.
Darrell Hines, is one of those who has been lobbying for updates from government, told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that he doesn’t see how government can live up to its commitment of a September 2026 opening.
He say the school was announced in Budget 2023 and Budget 2024 and will likely be announced again in the next budget next week. Hines doesn’t begrudge Airport Heights getting a new high school, but says that one was announced after Kenmount Terrace and they have already called tenders.
