At a campaign stop in Winnipeg today, Liberal Leader Mark Carney defended his decision to remove the consumer carbon tax, and indicated that that’s “only the start” in addressing affordability for Canadians.
He referenced ten dollar a day childcare which he says is saving Canadian families – on average – $10,000 per child, per year, and helping the economy.
In the meantime, Carney addressed questions about a new round of U.S. tariffs due tomorrow.
Carney says they’ll be watching to see what Trump’s administration comes up with and says Canada is ready with retaliatory tariffs of its own, if more economic measures are brought against Canada.
Carney also said he accepts the resignation of Markham Liberal candidate Paul Chiang who recently commented that people should take his Conservative rival to a local Chinese consulate to collect a bounty.
While Carney initially defended his candidate, RCMP indicated they are looking into Chiang’s comments, and Chiang announced last night that he is resigning and dropping out of the race.
