Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says he plans to have another look at the Marine Atlantic fee structure if elected to government.
Poilievre was in St. John’s yesterday, announcing support for the oil and gas sector and the fishery.
The provincial government came out last week saying the province cannot and will not participate in a Canada-wide free trade agreement because of understaffing on the Marine Atlantic service and “exorbitant fees” to move goods.
Poilievre told reporters yesterday that he’s open to cutting Marine Atlantic fees.
“We’re looking at that question right now,” says the Conservative Leader. “Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have the right to get across our country just like everyone else. And after the lost Liberal decade, with crime and costs up and our economy down under America’s thumb, the Liberals don’t deserve a fourth term of hitting Newfoundlanders with higher fees and more expenses.”
