The capital city has released its 2024 annual report on the City of St. John’s Accessibility Plan.
Council representative on the city’s Inclusion Advisory Committee, Ophelia Ravencroft outlined some of the report’s highlights during yesterday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.
She says in 2021, the province enacted the Accessibility Act, which had a number of significant changes, including the requirement that public bodies develop three-year accessibility plans.
The city’s first one was approved in 2023, and they’ve done some significant work since then says Ravencroft.
“In my opinion I think the indicators are looking quite good. There are 51 actions initiated in 2024, 13 of those are complete, 34 are in progress or on track, two are progressing but behind, and two are progressing but overdue. That’s some pretty significant factors in my opinion.”
