A Hollywood icon from the 1980s and 90s has passed away.

Val Kilmer, who starred in movies like Top Gun and Batman Forever, passed away on Tuesday from pneumonia. He was 65.

Kilmer was praised for his performance as Doc Holiday in Tombstone and for his remarkable portrayal of Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s The Doors.

Kilmer was touted as a rising star in Hollywood in the early part of his career, recognized for his extraordinary acting ability and striking looks, but had a reputation for being difficult to work with.

While he received numerous awards for his performances, an Academy Award proved elusive.

Kilmer suffered a number of health issues in recent years and was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2015.
