The Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador is underscoring the importance of acceptance and understanding on this, World Autism Day.
As CEO Paul Walsh explains, the day used to be centered around awareness, but now the focus has shifted.
He says people who are neurodivergent will process information differently, think differently, and react differently.
Traditionally, Walsh says, society has only been accepting of one way of thinking, and this day is about understanding different ways of thinking.
He says staff from the society will do presentations at schools and businesses about the different communication styles and ways of thinking.
