Exams scheduled for today at Holy Heart High School in St. John’s have been rescheduled due to a small fire in the school yesterday that has forced its temporary closure.
The school says a small fire was detected in a third-floor bathroom stall just before dismissal time. Students and staff were safely evacuated and the St. John’s Regional Fire Department was called to the scene, but the fire itself was successfully put out by staff using a fire extinguisher.
The school says only students with belongings in areas that fire officials have determined to be safe will be able to retrieve those belongings. All other students will have to wait until school reopens.
Holy Heart will remain closed today, and exams that were scheduled to take place today have been postponed until Monday.
