The association, which speaks for parents of children in the K-12 system, likes the measures contained in the provincial budget to hire more people for the classroom and to increase spending on technology.
The government has allocated $20 million to hire 400 teachers and learning assistants, a move which the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Student Councils calls a great start.
Most associated with the education system agree that expanding the human resource content to that extent will be difficult, but association president Don Coombs says it will encourage people to choose education as a career path when they enter the post-secondary system.
“At least now, students can see that the opportunities are there so it’s a good start,” says Coombs.
