A centre focused on using new technology to bolster the province’s workforce has secured a valuable partner in its mission.
The NL Workforce Innovation Centre is now part of the Best Practices Repository, part of Magnet, a centre for innovation at Toronto’s Metropolitan University.
The launch took place at the Emera Innovation Exchange on MUN’s Signal Hill campus Friday.
The Magnet platform hosts a national network of communities, offering tools, opportunities, and support for people looking for jobs, and companies looking for workers.
It’s designed to encourage greater collaboration and information sharing, tracking research on employment, employability and entrepreneurship.
The key is technology integration using newer sources of information such as artificial intelligence.
Magnet’s executive director, Mark Patterson, says people can take comfort in the knowledge that they’re on it.
“We face a challenge where sometimes there are jobs without people and people without jobs,” he said. “But I think it’s good for every Newfoundlander and Labradorian to know that people are thinking about these issues and care about sustainable jobs and good jobs, and making sure that our communities are prosperous and the kind of society we want to live in.”
