Easter Monday marks an important anniversary that still resonates to this day.
The Easter Rising, or Easter Rebellion, which took place during Easter Week in 1916, involved a group of Irish republicans who rose up against British rule in Ireland.
The rebels attempted to seize a number of important sites in Dublin, but after several days were knocked down by British troops and forced to surrender.
At least 485 lives were lost, about half of whom were civilians. Thousands more were wounded.
Michael Boyle marks the occasion every Easter Monday outside Colonial Building. He calls it a solemn occasion marking an event that deserves to be remembered.
The event will be remembered today at 11:55 a.m. outside Colonial Building in St. John’s.
