A Holy Mass for the victims of the deadly attack at the Lapu-Lapu Festival in Vancouver Saturday night is scheduled for this Sunday at Devine Mercy Parish – the old St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church – in St. John’s.
The Filipino Association of Newfoundland and Labrador is reaching out to members in British Columbia and leaders in the area to better understand how they can offer meaningful support.
One man has been arrested after ramming his vehicle through a densely packed crowd attending a street festival.
At least 11 people were killed and many more were rushed to hospital, some of whom suffered serious and life-threatening injuries.
The local Filipino Association says it stands in solidarity with the Filipino community in B.C. and they respectfully echo their request discouraging the viewing and sharing of videos of the incident.
In the meantime, Interim Vancouver police chief Steve Rai says an online portal has been created where witness video can be submitted for investigative purposes.
He says the investigation doesn’t stop because they’ve made an arrest, “we’ve got a lot more work to do, and that work will be trying to understand all of the circumstances about this incident.”
This weekend’s Mass is scheduled for 6:30 Sunday evening.
