One of Newfoundland and Labrador’s performing treasures has received one of the industry’s top honours.
Actor and comedian Mark Critch was presented with the ACTRA Award of Excellence this weekend in St. John’s, highlighting his 30 years in the business.
Mark began skits on stage when he was 15, renting out the LSPU Hall, and appearing on radio and television.
Now 50, he stars in the CBC TV show “Son of a Critch,” a program which features his years growing up as the son of famed VOCM News reporter Mike Critch.
He told the Tim Powers Show on VOCM yesterday that it continues to be a great ride.
“Right out of the gate, I was lucky enough to be doing stuff here in town, and got my ACTRA card when I was 20,” he said.
Critch says he owes a debt of gratitude to many people who took a chance on him along the way.
He credits people like TV producer Ray Penton, who did Fresh Fish and all those shows, Pete Soucy, who got him to do some writing for Snook, Jim Payne, who got him to do material for Rising Tide.
