The newly-elected MP in the hard-fought election campaign in Terra Nova-The Peninsulas is offering assurances that he will represent all residents of the riding in Ottawa.
Anthony Germain squeaked past Conservative candidate Jonathan Rowe with just a 12 vote margin in what turned out to be the tightest political race in the 2025 federal election.
While a recount is underway, Germain believes that his victory will stand.
“A win is a win, and I’m pretty sure that that win is going to be confirmed because 12 ballots is actually a lot. It would be unthinkable to me that we would see anything overturned in terms of finding 13 that are wrong.”
Germain says in the meantime, “we’ll wait for the process to unfold. My mind now is on how am I going to do the best job representing everybody in this riding, including the people that I know are disappointed wit the outcome. So, I’m going to have to gain their trust and say ‘look, I’m here trying to do the best I can for you.”
Germain is congratulating Jonathan Rowe on a hard-fought campaign.
Rowe meanwhile, addressed his supporters via Facebook after the final poll came in, expressing optimism about the democratic process and the importance of having your voice heard by marking your ballot.
He categorized the election result as a “roller coaster” and says it should serve as proof, in particular to young people who might believe that their vote doesn’t matter. “Let this be a wake-up call, in the next election you need to vote, because it might just be the vote that your candidate is depending on.”
