Among Andrew Furey’s final acts as premier will be the announcement of a new tribute to Newfoundland and Labrador’s wartime legacy.
Furey was named the honourary next-of-kin of the Unknown Soldier who was brought back to Newfoundland from the battlefield in France where he fell in WWI.
The repatriation took place last year, an occasion that Premier Furey has repeatedly said was among the highlights of his political career and one that he was honoured to be part of.

Premier Furey’s successor will be chosen this weekend during a Liberal leadership convention at the JAG Soundhouse.
Today’s announcement will take place in the main lobby of Confederation Building at 1:30.
