Fundraising efforts are underway to build a playground in the Goulds in memory of a young boy who lost his life to cancer several years ago, and now one of his former classmates is putting his hair on the line to help make it happen.
Curtis Hudson passed away in November 2017 at the age of six following a short battle with brain cancer.
Now, through the Curtis Hudson Memorial Fund, efforts are underway to raise money to build a park near Goulds Elementary in memory of the young boy.
Thirteen-year-old AJ Billard, who went to kindergarten and grade one with Curtis, has been growing out his hair ever since the beginning of the COVID pandemic.
Billard has started a fundraiser called “Shave to Play.” If he can raise $5,000 to go toward the playground by May 31, he will shave off his hair and donate it to wigs for kids.
He describes Curtis as a creative person who was kind and was everyone’s friend. ” Wherever he went, happiness went too.”
