More trial dates have been added as more are lost to pre-trial arguments in the Tony Humby sexual violence case.
The 64-year-old grandfather faces 72 charges of abusing vulnerable youth in St. John’s east end over the past 20-plus years.
The new trial dates would drag the matter into late June.
Humby’s co-accused, 84-year-old Bruce Escott, pleaded guilty and has already been sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Allegations that Humby and Escott were literal partners in crime were accepted as fact in Escott’s case.
But the trial, now two months behind, has been paused since the mistaken disclosure of a document to the defence.
That’s triggered further requests for anything else the Crown may have that’s “likely relevant” to the case.
A judge could rule on that today, which may dictate Humby’s next move, beyond shuffling back and forth from jail to court.
