This is Emergency Preparedness Week across Newfoundland and Labrador, and the provincial government is reminding people to be ready should such a situation arise.
The province says critical services can become overwhelmed during emergencies, and as such people need to be self-sufficient for at least 72-hours with an emergency preparedness kit.
Items to include in such a kit are food, water, batteries, a portable radio, and any prescription medications a person may need.
More information about what to include can be found on government’s website.
