VOCM News has been named as a finalist for an Atlantic Journalism Award.
The award is in the audio category for best radio newscast.
The submission is from July 17th of last year and looks at two developing stories.
First is coverage of an FFAW demonstration on the waterfront in which 2,000 pounds of cod was quickly given away. The second story involves the first emerging details of a police operation in downtown St. John’s, which was later confirmed to be a homicide investigation.
The newscast is anchored by Brian Madore, and features live hits from Linda Swain and Richard Duggan.
Also nominated in that category are CKNI The Bend in Moncton, New Brunswick, and CKHZ Hot Country 103.5 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
This year’s Atlantic Journalism Award winners will be announced at a gala in Halifax on June 7th.
