A special hockey tournament in Paradise, aimed at helping some of the most vulnerable in the community, is underway.
The inaugural Hockey Helps the Homeless tournament is being held at the Paradise Double Ice Complex in support of Choices for Youth.
Former NHL players, local players, and stars from the TV show Shorsey will be on hand for the event.
Jen Crowe from Choices for Youth says they’ve been focusing on building housing supply for homeless youth in the capital city.
“When it comes to investing in housing, that’s a huge, huge priority of ours as an organization,” she told VOCM News.
“We have a target of increasing our housing stock by 50 per cent in the next three years. So we’re really working towards a 28-unit housing development that takes an enormous amount of investment in terms of capital but also pre-development and staffing.”
