A local animal rescue group has been left scrambling for resources after having to take in 10 beagles in 10 days.
Sheila Collins, president of Beagle Paws Rescue, says in an average month they would take in between 10 and 15 dogs.
But in the first 10 days of May alone she says they had a dog surrendered to them every day.
Collins says the animals came to them from a variety of circumstances, including people having to move out of province, people who couldn’t find pet-friendly housing, and a beagle from St. Pierre that could not receive the necessary medical treatment there.
She says the situation is putting pressure on the organization to find more foster families, and on their ability to cover the medical bills for vet care.
Collins says those bills can be costly, ranging on average from $500 to $1,000.
As a result, Beagle Paws has launched a fundraiser called $10 for 10 Dogs.
