Government says it would have liked to see another tuition freeze by Memorial University but that, ultimately, it’s up to the institution.
The Canadian Federation of Students is incensed that MUN is increasing tuition by four per cent for 2025-26.
Education Minister Bernard Davis acknowledges that it’s tough for students to make ends meet, but he noted that his government offers help through student aid.
“They make the decisions on tuition,” he said. “I think students are feeling the cost pressures like everybody is, but that’s why we’ve made an announcement just this past week about bringing the student aid program that we have, to make it one of the most generous in the country.”
