The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary were kept busy during Road Safety Week last week, catching several people who were driving well beyond the speed limit.
In total, the RNC issued nearly 550 across all jurisdictions throughout the week—mostly for speeding.
The most egregious offence happened in Mount Pearl, where an 18-year-old was caught travelling at over double the posted speed limit.
The highest speed recorded during the week was on Peacekeepers Way, where a 20-year-old driver was clocked at 162 km/h.
Police also nabbed five impaired drivers over the course of the week, seized 23 vehicles and suspended the licenses of 12 drivers.
