Field parties have become a rite of passage for many young people graduating from high school, but the RNC says they’re attracting an element that simply wants to cause trouble.
There were a number of reported incidents at field parties in the metro region over the long weekend that sent some young people to hospital.
Constable James Cadigan says for the most part, kids are gathering just to have fun, but with the help of certain apps, others—whose presence might not be welcomed—are showing up, just to cause trouble.
He says Snapchat for instance has a Snap Map identifying the location for certain gatherings. “There’s often hundreds of young people attending these events, the likelihood that someone’s going to have a connection or a contact that links to somebody who wants to cause harm is probable.”
That’s why, says Cadigan it’s important for parents to know where their kids will be, and to stay in contact with them in case something does happen.
